photoramarama

aforementioned photos posted below. i have access to a few more (that are super sweet), but am unable to download them. booooo. hopefully soon though. and i am still waiting on san diego/l.a. photos, so those will come in time as well.

BIKING ADVENTURES

the morning/afternoon of our housewarming party, rudy and i set off on bike to go a farmer's market and buy the hard alcohol. on the way back, he fell in love with a little red rider wagon. so. the ride home = two bikes, two folks dressed like fools, two backpacks full of alcohol and a little red wagon being dragged along by either member of the biking posse. ridiculous.

proof:

final stop: my front stoop. i have a front stoop like bill cosby's. note the little red rider wagon and rudy's understandable exhaustion.

HOUSEWARMING PARTY BEGINS

8:30pm: 10-15 bluegrass singers show up at our house. they have brought instruments. the housemates think they are my friends, but i have met one of them, well, once. so they show up at 8:30. party's "scheduled" at 9:30. i am still in pjs and haven't showered. they perform IN MY BEDROOM.

proof:

they are sitting on the couch in the area of my room that does NOT have the loft overhead. to the right: the entrance to my room. to the left, the deck and my desk. please note my tiny czech records, ample windows, hardwood floors and bluegrass groupies. oooooh, also i just realized you can see my loft bed in the window reflection...

below: ryan (housemate) and damian (his brother). they are watching the bluegrass performance from the kitchen. damian is wearing my chicken costume. um, my chicken costume.

GENERAL PARTY PHOTOS:

the curly-haired dude to the left is ian, the keys player for j.v. - next to ian is eric#1, who lived with me at my first flat in sf (when my room was a closet and i lived in danger zone)

party in process

my deck. note the texas koozie. i used it throughout the night to "prove" that i was from texas.

under my loft bed. note the spiral staircase.

our kitchen is being taken over

polyamorous jahshwa. met him the first night i moved to sf. friend of heather's (and miiine).

rudy in grunge gear. I LOVE HIM.

3:30am: aaaaaaaaaahahhaa. the full indie-rock concert begins IN MY LIVING ROOM. note one of our couches upturned in the corner, microphones and amps. this is what i walked into. i had no idea this was happening 20 seconds before this photo was taken.

HOUSEMATE MANIA:

ruthie: super cute, sews like a mad woman, works at a billion venues in the city and going to art school. one of the most focused 23 year-olds i know. i take it back: 23-30 year-olds.

with ryan. he's hip. don't you worry.

the four of us as one: ruthie, jen, eric #3 and ryan

ok that's all for now. more soon. i love you kids - jen

on constant repeat

hello hello

this entry will be filled to the brim with updates. yes, i recognize i haven't blogged in nearly a month. i'm not sure why really, except for 1) my intense dislike for computers after work as well as 2) hanging out to the max with housemates, 3) books + couch or futon in my super wonderful new room, 4) beer at the pub down my street and 5) rudy during/after all previous events.

some of these updates will be old news for a few of you, but they must be written of:

On Camera
  • bought one via ebay and it was busted. it seriously looked like it had been mailed from the surface of an asteroid. lcd screen smashed. edges melted and warped. BUT i have been stockpiling photos from various sources capturing: a) the super sweet (seriously) party my housemates and i threw, b) my house, c) san diego/l.a. boring yet restful and i got to see many friends far away extravaganza and d) general interest. these will be posted within the next 7 days. seriously.
On Work
  • A few weeks ago, my bosses became mindful of the fact that I: a) hate my job, b) started looking for another job and c) am bored out of my mind. It was probably because I told them all of these things after I received my end of year bonus - ha - Conversation as follows: "Thanks for the bonus, guys. Really, you shouldn't have. And you should know that I'm bored out of my mind. And really, I only work 20% of the time I am here." - ahhha - I'm so balzsssy.
  • Newly aware of my feelings on my job, they sat me down a few days later to tell me that they wanted me to stay with them and to ask me what i required in order to stay. My response: "I want to work more in less hours." They were confused at first, but I explained that I wanted more responsibilies in more areas in the office, but only to work 4 days of the week. Their response,"Sounds good. And don't worry: we won't dock your pay." HAHAHAHA! Whaaaaaaa??!!...
  • So yes. I no longer work on Thursdays and have retained my full salary with benefits. Bam! But the job is still super boring, so will be looking for something new probably in the beginning of summer oohhhh sssoohhhhhooo. But whatever. The no Thursdays thaaang is great for now. Why were Thursdays my choice day, you ask?
    • My work week only feels like 3 days
    • I get a lot of sh*t done on Thursdays so I can relax on the weekend
    • Friday afternoons are sort of a joke at my office and wine is occasionally involved
    • There's no way I will miss my free Monday holidays
    • If I take off on a Friday, I magically have a FOUR-day weekend instead of a three. Yeeeeeeeees.
On House
  • awesome awesome awesome. my three housemates (whom you were able to read about for the previous month) are still fantastic, hilarious and laid-back. praise be.
  • my room is seriously increasingly beautiful by the minute. my loft bed is super cool - i wake up surrounded by vinery, windows, super sunny or rainy mornings and pretty views of the interesting, twisting sf residential architecture. and my comforter is suuuuuuper cozy.
  • we had a party at our house for my birthday/housewarming, and i have to say that it was pretty freaking fantastic. it involved:
    1. a chicken costume
    2. bluegrass performances at 8:30pm (in my room)
    3. a full indie-rock show with amps, mics and wires beginning at 3:30am (in the living room)
    4. jen wandering through the party the entire time providing all with beer, a conversation, a welcome to the party and a confused look on her face because of the sheer amount of stuff going on
    5. rudy dressed as "90s grunge" complete with boombox playing nirvana
    6. a fridge full of pabst and a table full of hard liquor sans mixers by 2am
    7. housemate bonding and high-fiving
On School
  • We have to wait and see on that one. Still figuring out what I want to study. I am reading a book called "Consilience" by E.O. Wilson right now who argues basically that the structure of academia right now is bogus, that the humanities and sciences are inextricably linked but not enough folks focus on that fact. There are too many disciplines, to many SUB-disciplines, too much compartmentalization and even more sub-disciplines. Too much focus on the tiny. "Scholars" know sh*tloads about whatever it is they are studying and very little about everything else... which leads to inevitable overlap of studies, individuals learning about things in one discipline that could be pretty handy to those studying in others and the coining of varying terminology for nearly (or exactly) the same concepts which leads to inevitable squabbling, pretentiousness and clowning on the other terms people use. Why am I writing this? Perhaps its an excuse (or one of my true reasons) that i havent "chosen" what to study yet. It feels contrived, honestly. I would love to study within about 6 "subdisciplines." I recognize that I should choose something, learn everything i can in that arena, and then break into another. Just deal with the tiny first. Perhaps I reach for the ideal too often.
On Boyeeez
  • Welcome to ManFast Two-Thousand-SEVEN: Ryan (housemate) and I made a friendly wager (solely for my own pride's sake) that I could/could not go on a date for a month. I gladly accepted. I have been talking about putting off guys for a month minimal for a while now - there has been far too much chaos beginning September 2006 - and it took Ryan joking around for me to act on it. "Yes. Yes!" I proclaimed, as I firmly shook his hand on it. It began February 4, 2007 and I am doing quite well. Have cut everything not worth my time off. Am reading more. Am RELAXED. Feel much much better and will never date more than 2 boys at a time EVER again.
On Future
  • I have spoken of school and work. See above.
  • It's Spring, which means it's guests galore time!
    • Mike Billingsly: next week: friend from High School. Driving from MONTANA to hang out for a week. Really, really excited
    • Kid Sister Radiant Beth: YEEEEEEEEES. She gets here in TWO WEEKS and I am STOKED. STOKED.
    • Reena and Lars: friends from grad school. Both are super smart Ph.D. students and received NSF grants independently (Whaaaaa). Reena studied in India; Lars in Peru. I cannot wait until they arrive. Reena's staying at my house - though I am unsure about Larzy-Poo. I just hope Reena and I dont freak him out. We are a powerful combination.
    • Aaron, Cousinian, Kin: This could be awesome. I don't think I have seen him since 1986 or something. I just know he's in Dallas, travels a bit, is 19 ohhhhsoooohhh and that i would love to see him. I'm crossing my fingers.
  • Upcoming Trips:
    • Puerto Rico - tentative, only for a loooong weekend in March to meet my your European friends halfway. More on this soon
    • Iquitos, Peru - oh you read correctly, Mario. I am seriously considering this excursion in May.
    • TEXAS - graduation fever!!! and i can't wait. when in the hell are all of you gradjjjeeeayting again? oh my god you are gradjjjjeeeeayting.
  • Long-Term: I am going to try my hardest to think ahead longer than 2 months from now on. It's kind of a problem of mine. For instance, I KNOW i need to start thinking about next Winter and where I want to be in my life because winters in this city SUCK MY ARSE and i need to gear up for it. something blue something new or something.
ok i'm tired. wow. wrote a lot. really miss you guys a lot. seriously. i hope things are going well out there! I HEART YOU A LOT.
